Join us for a Celebration of Africa
Events across the country featuring African music, dance, film, history, art, social and political life and much more for Africa Day.
Irish Aid, the Government’s overseas development programme, is delighted to support the celebration of Africa Day in Ireland. In May 2010, two flagship family events took place in Dublin and Limerick and a programme of awareness-raising and educational events took place across the country to celebrate Africa Day from 15th to 25th May. Find out what happened near you.
Africa Day, which falls on 25th May annually, is the official day of the African Union and marks African unity. It is an opportunity to celebrate African diversity and success, and join Africans around the world in highlighting the cultural and social energy of the continent.
Ireland has historically strong connections to Africa, through the work of Irish missionaries and non-governmental organisations and – more recently – through the Irish Aid programme; immigration and business; community and school exchanges.
Irish Aid invites people throughout Ireland to join in an exploration and celebration of African music, dance, film, history, art, social and political life and much more for Africa Day each year.
