Special Music Performances
This year at Africa Day Limerick, visitors could enjoy a range of special music performances throughout the day. The various performances ranged from gospel choir music to drumming shows and visitors were encouraged to come along to sample some traditional African sounds.
Details of the various performances were as follows:
12-1.30pm, Main Entrance area to Limerick City Hall: Sofad Ireland Choir
The eight-piece SOFAD Ireland choir performed a range of religious songs from the Congo, wich were sung in Congolese. The choir aimed to convey the Congo's rich cultural and religious heritage through their peformance.
The SOFAD Ireland Choir was established in 2009.
2pm, Main Entrance area to Limerick City Hall: Limerick Jazz Workshop
The Limerick Jazz Workshop ensemble played in the main entrance area to Limerick City Hall from 2pm onwards at Africa Day Limerick, performing.
4.30-4.30pm, Performance Space outside Council Chamber: African Power Drumming Performance
60 young drummers performed an exciting drumming show in the performance space outside the Council Chamber. The drummers hailed from a local school in Limerick and the performance also featured a number of visitors to the Africa Day event. This performance was part of a project coordinated by University Concert Hall (UCH) Limerick.
